“You can only see in someone else what you see in yourself.”
— Alan Cohen
I was trying to figure out how to begin this post about Alan Cohen, an endearing author who has been publishing with Hay House since the “early days.” Then yesterday just as a few of us were talking about Alan’s new book, one of my colorful coworkers walked by and chimed in, “I want my Alan Cohen!”
We didn’t have to ask her what she meant. We all knew.
Alan is just one of those people who make you feel good when you see them and talk to them. He’s kind of like “Harv” from Cagney and Lacey or Bill Cosby’s “Cliff Huxtable.” You know . . . those sweet and adorable characters we admire because they are always supportive and know just the right things to say.
Alan visited our office a few weeks ago and gave a short presentation about his latest book, Linden’s Last Life. He is a mesmerizing storyteller and he captivated us as he shared details about publishing his first book. “I was a yoga teacher at the time. I didn’t really like to write,” Alan admitted as he laughed. But the Universe had other plans for him.
After very clear messages that even spelled out the name of his first book, Alan was on the road to becoming one of the most inspiring writers of our time. For him, there’s no need to analyze the whys or wherefores. “Some things are choice, something things are destiny,” he says.
As he talks about his journey as an author and speaker, Alan exudes such confidence. This was unmistakably evident when he recalled a time when someone questioned his representation. Alan simply answered, “God is my agent.” And he believes this with every breath he takes.
Alan continued his talk by showing us a brief video clip about his new book, Linden’s Last Life. This was just after he offered, complete with photos, the delightful story about how he become the proud parent of five precious little dogs. If you look closely, you’ll see that Alan truly breathes compassion and joy with every word he speaks.
While Alan is known for his thought-providing, inspirational books, he always had an inner desire to write a novel—and his lifelong dream has finally come true with the recent release of Linden’s Last Life. And you’ll be so glad he did when he takes you on this compelling roller-coaster ride through one man’s journey to find his destiny.
“This book asks a lot of questions,” Alan says. “Are we in charge of our destiny?” “Is life really worth living?”
For me, I couldn’t put this book down. Linden’s Last Life is an exhilarating novel filled with unpredictable twists and turns that will keep you baffled about what’s going to happen next. Yet at the same time it’s spiritually charged with life-changing messages that made me think about what motivates us to choose certain paths in life and just how precious that choice is.
“I tried to wedge hefty messages between the cracks,” Alan adds as he smiles with pride. “My hope is to empower people to believe more in themselves.”
When you read Linden’s Last Life, you’ll see that he delivers this and more. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself saying, “I want my Alan Cohen” too!

James Redfield, author of The Celestine Prophecy, calls Alan “the most eloquent spokesman of the heart.” How true!
