Earlier this month, I attended several sessions of our annual Hay House International Meeting. At this gathering were the managing directors, marketing managers and staff members from our headquarters in California and all of our overseas offices. For me, it was the first time I had a chance to match some of the faces with the emails of working friends I have corresponded with for almost a decade.
It was so exciting to be in a room with such caring people and creative minds representing the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and India. For several days, we shared our ideas and concerns about the changing publishing market. We talked about which trends are working in which countries and which innovations are peeking over the horizon that we need to address. We discussed how we can continue to nurture the needs of our growing audience and how we can be more creative to widen our reach and bring the wisdom of Hay House to all corners of the world.
At the end of the three-day meeting, there was one message that stood out for me among the many marketing strategies, statistics and predictions about the future of book publishing. It was something that Leon, our marketing director in Australia, said:
“Content is king. And quality content is the emperor.”
Trends may come and go and the devices on which we read our books may change, but one thing remains constant—people from around the world are hungry for quality content. So whether you live in Buenos Aires or Bangkok, Indianapolis or Istanbul, Cape Town or Cape May, Tokyo or Tallahassee, Glasgow or Greenwich Village—if quality content is what you’re hungry for, that’s what we’ve got!
