Best-selling author Deepak Chopra, M.D., has added something new and different to his amazing list of creative works, which include more than 50 books and over 100 audio, video, and CD titles—his first children’s book!
You with the Stars in Your Eyes: A little girl’s glimpse at Cosmic Consciousness is dedicated to all the children of the world with the words: “If we could see through their eyes, the world would be healed.”
This delightful book tells the beautifully illustrated story of a cool summer’s eve when five-year-old Tara takes a walk on the beach with her grandfather. When he is not quite sure how to answer Tara’s questions about love and life, the Moon herself joins in on the conversation. She tells Tara that the stars made our eyes so they could see themselves in reflection as we look up toward heaven. She also explains that everyone we see is our own self in a different form—all of us born of light. Deepak Chopra’s first children’s book is a sweet and poignant story that reveals the true meaning of love.
Deepak says the book is based on the story of a real evening beach walk he took with his granddaughter, Tara. “We were walking and I said to Tara, ‘I love you very much’ and she asked ‘How much?’ Because we were under a canopy of stars and a full moon, I said, ‘More than the stars and the moon.’ When she asked ‘why’ again, I said, ‘Because you came from there.’ I explained to her how light comes from the universe, how everything that grows on our planet is from the same energy, and how her body and her eyes are made of the same light. When Tara said, ‘Look up, the stars want to see themselves,’ I got the idea that children can have glimpses of cosmic consciousness.”
Deepak mentioned Tara’s story in a lecture at the Esalen Institute. Artist Dave Zaboski, who had already worked on several children’s books, was in the audience and came forward with an offer to illustrate a book about Tara and her grandfather. Dave met Deepak and Tara at the beach in Santa Monica to take pictures and based the illustrations for the book on the many photos he took. Tara says her story is about a girl who looks through the eyes of the universe. “When you look through the eyes of the universe, you see yourself in everyone.” Tara says she has read You with the Stars in Your Eyes “a bunch of times” and she really likes it. The book has special meaning for her because her name means “star” in Hindi.
Deepak says he is hoping parents will see the book as an opportunity to expand not only the awareness of their children, but their own awareness as well. “We get so caught up in trivial and mundane things sometimes we forget the magnificence of who we are and so I hope this will be an opening for parents to start this dialog with their children.”

"... all of us born from Light", it's that simple.
