Thanksgiving without Sugar?

I’ve been hearing from so many of you that you’ve started on The Core Balance Diet—you’ve taken the quizzes, determined your imbalance, have worked with your meal plan and you’re starting to feel better!  Strong, energized and in control of your life againCongratulations!

I’m also starting to get questions‘How do I do this during the holidays?’ ‘What will Thanksgiving be like without sugar?’ ‘I’m not hosting Thanksgiving this year, so how can I eat at someone else’s house?’ These are all great questions…and good for you for thinking about them ahead of time!

You may need to break from the Core Balance day-by-day meal plan over the holidaysits okay! I do have five simple tips that may help you stay in balance during this time:

  • Keep protein on your mind! Balance carbohydrates with protein. If the twice-baked potatoes are too delicious to pass up, then don’t! Just be sure to have a slice of turkey with them.
  • Bring a dish to Thanksgiving dinner that is right for youand make enough to share. Your hostess may be very appreciative!
  • Remember that you don’t have to have a full portion of everything that’s offeredyou might want to have lots of salad greens and just a small slice of homemade breadit’s okay! Choose what’s right for you.
  • If you don’t have time to experiment with a sugar-free or gluten-free recipe, search your yellow pages! Many stores and bakeries are now offering a wide variety of both sugar-free and gluten-free products. You can even purchase prepared gluten-free crusts!
  • If you can, take a few minutes just for you before a big meal. You don’t have to run three miles or soak in a tub for 30 minutes (but you could!)just taking a few minutes to breathesix deep breaths in and out can do wonders to help you slow down and relax before a big meal. When you’re relaxed, you won’t feel the need to rush through your meal and might even find that you’ll make different food choices.

Take time to enjoy your family, friends . . . and most important—You!  So many women put themselves on fast forward this time of yearreaching out to make the day, and the meal special for everyone – using the special Holiday dishes, making everyone’s favorite pie, insuring that everything is just perfect. This year, I hope you’ll take a few minutes just for you. I’ve made this one of my personal goals.

This Thanksgiving my children will all be returning home from their respective colleges. In the past I have worked very hard to insure that they’ve each had their favorite pie, favorite side dish, and so on. This year really isn’t any different, but this year I really want to have time with them, so I’ve come up with a plan to bake some pies ahead of time and freeze them, to purchase gluten-free bread from a wonderful bakery that I’ve found.

There’s lots of helpful hintsif you have one to share or just want to learn more, tune in to my radio show on Tuesday on HayHouseRadio.com.
