The guidance you receive when you ask for help via a petition or prayer is the Divine speaking to you. Over time, you’ll learn to trust it. I always hear it in my left ear.

Just note what’s being said that is supportive and kind. When that doubt slips in, acknowledge it, thank it for trying to help, kid around with it a bit, and then let it go. And also shake it off.

Literally. Moving your body really helps.

Now let’s get into some specific ways of communicating with God.

  • Divine Love Petitions
  • Change Me Prayers
  • Speaking With Angels

These three are my favorite go-to practices for doing this. There are, of course, many others.

Today I want to delve deeper into just one of them:

Divine Love Petitions

This process can be used to ask for guidance, healing, or help with anything you need. You simply have to adjust the petition to address the problem you are looking to solve.

The body is a battery—an electromagnetic field of potential. Divine Love is distributed throughout our bodies almost instantaneously via the crystalline matrix of our connective tissue. A Divine Love Petition is basically a process of asking Spirit to direct Divine Love to a specific issue and then observing what happens.

When you present the request to the Divine and ask for help, help is given.

1. Sit comfortably with your arms and legs uncrossed and remove all jewelry.

2. Prepare to draw in your breath through your nose right after you say the petition.

3. Say the following out loud: “With my Spirit and the angels’ help [you can even name a specific angel] I focus Divine Love throughout my system. I ask my Spirit to identify any cause or any situation that separates me from the Creator. And remove those causes and situations with Divine Love, according to the Creator’s will.”

4. Breathe in through your nose, and hold your breath for a count of four. This brings the petition into your body.

5. Pulse your breath out through your nose like you are clearing your nose. This releases the petition to the universe.

6. Just sit quietly and focus on your thymus gland, which is right under your sternum—that place where you’d thump your chest and say “Oh my!” Divine Love is mediated to the rest of the body through this gland. What do you notice?

Most people notice tingling in their chest or hands or somewhere in their bodies. Some notice a feeling of deep peace. If you get a pain somewhere or start to cough, just pulse your breath again. And send Divine Love to the area that is bothering you. Now you are connected with the Creator.

7. This is very simple. In silence, ask a question and just listen, or do a more specific petition to help you get answers: “With my Spirit and the angels’ help, I focus Divine Love throughout my system, I acknowledge my [state the problem], and ask that I be shown what I need to know about this issue according to the Creator’s will.”

Draw in your breath through your nose. Hold it. Now pulse it out through your nose. Sit in silence for a minute or so. Imagine a door or a window opening and showing you what you need to know. Trust the image. If you don’t get an answer, do another petition to remove your blockages from getting an answer!

“With my Spirit and the angels’ help, I ask that Divine Love show me what I need to know. And also heal this issue with Divine Love according to the Creator’s will.”

Remember, Divine Love and the Creator are not forces outside yourself that are judging you for being bad or good. Those are ego constructs, and many of them continue to influence us adversely from our childhood. So there are times when you need to simply say,

“I now release this pattern with the help of Divine Love.” Period.

That way you’re not expecting a Divine force outside of yourself to miraculously step in! Remember, it’s all you.

8. Do a final petition to turn the entire issue over to the Creator. Just say,

“I now turn this issue over to the Creator and ask that it be healed with Divine Love.”

(Or make up your own wording.)

When I use the Divine Love Petition process, I set the timer on my phone for two minutes. Then I sit in silence and simply pay attention to images that appear or songs that I hear.

The Divine Love Petition can be used in any area of your life where you’re looking for guidance or need healing: health, business, relationships, and so on. You simply have to state the issue in your petition.

Peeling the Onion

Healing with Divine Love is like peeling the layers of an onion. When it comes to health issues or thorny emotional issues, it can take a while to get your nervous system relaxed and to get to what’s really causing your issue. But Divine Love helps enormously while you’re going through the process.

Healing happens in layers. For example, this past summer I developed left-knee pain when I bent down into a squatting position. There was nothing wrong with the knee physically. I knew that because I was able to perform all my Pilates exercises as usual.

As a physician, I knew that if there had been something structurally wrong, this wouldn’t have been possible. Also, multiple sessions with fascial stretching, which is excellent for knee problems, and even acupuncture didn’t work. The pain didn’t go away with many Divine Love Petitions.

Then one day I slipped on some black ice and injured my right leg. That resulted in a great deal of right leg pain. Now I didn’t have a leg to stand on. Literally. I knew that this was highly symbolic. So I did a petition to release my old way of moving forward in the world, making sure to say that I released this pattern with my own will. The pain in my right leg went away almost immediately. The left-knee problem abated somewhat but didn’t go away completely.

The reason is that I was in the process of learning an entirely new way of moving forward in the world vis-à-vis the women in my life and my own feminine way of being. (The left side represents the mother, the women in our lives, and also our feminine side.) I had years and years of programming in this area that were slowly but surely leaving my body. One layer at a time.
