Vijay Santhanam was born in Madras (now Chennai), India. He graduated from the University of Roorkee – now Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee – in 1986 and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad in 1988. His 21 years of corporate career included senior Marketing roles with Procter and Gamble and BP. His last corporate role was Regional Marketing Director for BP (Auto lubricants) - Asia Pacific, based in Singapore.
