In my book, The Toltec Secret: Dreaming Practices of the Ancient Mexicans, you will learn why techniques of perception used by Teotihuacans, Toltecs and Mexihcas to allow them to enter other dimensions—like those of the ancestors, the future and the energy—are named after different birds. Why birds? Simple; because of the size of their heads, birds don´t have frontal vision, only peripheral vision, and it is peripheral vision that you need to enter into the other realities, which are hidden from the frontal vision that humans ordinarily use.

To see the aura, or what we call in the Toltec tradition “the energy egg,” the method of perception we use is named after the “quetzal”, one of the sacred birds for Toltecs, Aztecs and Mayans. This beautiful bird is mainly green, with a little bit of white and red in the shade, but when it flies towards the sun it becomes like a rainbow—you can’t see anything but a dazzling array of colors, exactly like our aura.

Here Are 5 Steps To Use The “Quetzal” Perception To See Auras:

  1. Sit comfortably facing north, with the object or person whose aura you want to see in front of you, and close your eyes.
  2. Breathe in through your nose counting from 1 to 9 in your mind and when you finish, breathe out through your mouth counting from 1 to 9 again.
  3. Repeat these cycles of breathing 9 times in a row.
  4. After finishing the 9 breaths, either think or say out loud that you will see with the eyes of the quetzal.
  5. Repeat the same process 3 times more.  At the end you would have done 36 cycles of breathing; every time you finish 9, you should think or say: “I will see with the eyes of the quetzal.”

When you finish this series of exercises, open your eyes and look at whatever or whoever’s aura you want to perceive. Then soften your focus, so that you can see the area around whatever you’re looking at. Do your best to adopt peripheral vision—turn your right eye to your right and your left to your left. When you do this, the object will become smoky. Finally, close your eyes a little while maintaining your peripheral vision. Focus your attention in your left eye, relax and keep breathing. Hold that perception and the object will become energy, partially or completely, and you are seeing its aura.

The ancient Toltecs would describe this experience by saying that you are flying like a Quetzal. Sometimes when you see the aura you’ll get so excited that you’ll return your eyes to their normal position and you will lose the perception, so try to stay calm. If you practice regularly, in a short time you will be able to see the aura of any object you choose, whenever you want.

There are many other techniques of perception in the ancient Toltec tradition like the macaw, the black eagle, the parrot and the hummingbird that flies to the left.  Many of these are described in my book The Toltec Secret. Enjoy mastering the first of many Toltec perception techniques that you will learn!
