Saying Yes to Life
Cherish the gift of today. In truth, the only thing that we have is the present, since the past is gone and the future is still to come. Yet we spend so much time in the past and the future that we very rarely take the opportunity to experience the delight available in the present moment.
When I was diagnosed with cancer, it was so easy to live in the past with thoughts such as Why I did I not take better care of myself? And it was also easy to live in the future, with fear about people judging me for getting cancer and also fear of the pain and suffering that the cancer might bring.
Then one day I woke up and asked myself, “What is true in this moment?” The truth was that I was alive, with a splendid day ahead of me to experience in any way I chose. I could choose to blunder through that day with regret about the past and worry about the future, or I could cherish every experience that life brought me.
Everything seemed to flow from that point—I experienced such radiance and joy. That moment was a turning point that I believe eventually, helped lead to my deliverance from cancer.
When you are totally in the present moment, you do not experience stress. You become stressed when you either replay the past or worry about the future. If you are constantly thinking, What if I can’t handle [fill in the blank]? I am afraid that [fill in the blank] might happen, or What did she mean when she said that? you are not fully experiencing the joy that is available in the moment.
Today, continually ask yourself, “What is happening right now, in this moment?” Take time today to sink into your truth. Often we are so busy living in the future or fretting over the past that we miss the immediate joy that is available in the present moment. If you find your mind wandering, gently say to yourself, “I cannot change the past, and tomorrow is not here. All I need is within me right now.”
Within you is divine light, pure and radiant. Close your eyes and gently encourage your body to relax and your mind to become still. Imagine yourself on a sunny seashore. An angel of light floats down with golden wings and gently wraps them around you.
Imagine yourself sinking into a feeling of deep surrender, relaxation, and infinite trust and faith as you are gently rocked and held by the angel. You know that you are loved. You know that you are enough just as you are. You know that the light within you is expanding and becoming even more vibrant and glowing. Take at least ten minutes to do this, and write down what you experienced in your journal.
Saying Yes to Life!
Your inner fire energy is your vitality, spontaneity, creativity, and life force. It is the part of you that says yes to life. When you can say yes to life in one area, it creates an opening for new energy, new ideas, and new inspiration in other areas.
Today, from the moment you wake up, choose your life. Choose every experience. Say, “Yes, this is what I want right now!” Even if it feels forced or uncomfortable, do this for a day. The most difficult situations can be filled with blessings if you look for them.
Maybe you cannot change all the experiences you have today, but you can certainly choose your reaction to them. Even if it feels silly, act as if everything that happens today is a special gift to you from the Creator, filled with meaning and blessings. Say, “This, too, is a part of the Creator’s plan for me today.” And tell yourself that no matter what happens, you will find a way that this day can be great!
