Still Eating Too Much?
2 rules to get you back on track. When you have candidiasis or other immune-system diseases, it is essential that the food you eat be properly assimilated and then eliminated. A healthy digestive tract can do this. But many people weaken their digestive tracts by overeating, which puts too heavy a workload on the digestive system. So moderation is a key factor in regaining health and maintaining it. We have two important rules, the 80/20 quantity rules, for you to keep in mind.
Rule #1:
Eat until your stomach is 80% full, leaving 20% available for digesting.
If you eat until you’re 100% full (or even more), this overeating furthers yeast overgrowth. It also slows digestion tremendously. Digestion should occur promptly. If it does not, fermentation occurs, and the yeast happily feed off the sugars produced in the fermentation process. Leaving a little room in the stomach (about 20%) for the digestive enzymes to do their job is essential for efficient digestion and for quickly turning around your body-ecology imbalance.
Rule #2:
80% of the food on your plate should be land and/or ocean vegetables. The remaining 20% can be:
- Animal protein, such as poultry or fish.
- A grain-like seed or a combination of grain-like seeds, such as quinoa with millet.
- A starchy vegetable or combination of starchy vegetables, such as red potatoes and corn.
A typical American meal contains mostly acid-forming foods (such as a big serving of steak or chicken) and not enough alkaline-forming foods, such as non-starchy vegetables. Since candidiasis is an acidic condition, your body needs more alkaline land and ocean vegetables to bring it back into balance.
Again, this also causes a lot of wear and tear on your digestive tract. By following the 80/20 and the food-combining rules, you will never again leave the table feeling over-full and bloated. You won’t want to take a nap after a meal, you won’t have gas, and you will feel calm and satisfied.
Grains, like wheat and rice, are not on the Body Ecology Diet because fermentation of the natural complex sugars in grains encourages candida overgrowth. So never, never fill up on grains or starchy vegetables. Even when you eat the grain-like seeds, it’s best to limit yourself to one serving and if you’re still hungry, have another helping of the alkaline forming land or ocean vegetables you have prepared.
