”When I let go of who I am, I become what I might be.”

— Lao Tzu

I just checked What’s In and What’s Out for 2012. The new list names Naps instead of Apps, Nicki Manaj over Lady Gaga and Pinterest kicking Google Plus to the curb. But after browsing our new book releases for this month and later this year, I’d like to add something that’s blatantly missing: Mindfulness over Multitasking.

If you asked me a few months ago if I had any extra speck of time in my busy schedule to sit still for any length of time, I would have laughed at the thought. But after meditating for a little over two months, I now honor my thoughts…all 80,000 of them that race through my mind every 1.2 seconds. Because now I take time to step off the speedway in my head and take a mindfulness break. And I feel better than I have in years!

You won’t have any trouble picking out the people around you who meditate. We’re the ones who are calmer, more rested, more lighthearted, and—in the face of a sudden crisis—we won’t be shaken! True, we still have the same endless to-do lists, impossible deadlines, mounting family responsibilities and frenetic schedules as everyone else, but we have a secret weapon: We’ve sampled the sweet taste of stillness and finally found the location of our very own “Reset” button.

At Hay House, a group of us meets at the end of every workday for a 30-minute meditation. We wear our new badge of mindfulness with pride and are ever grateful to our meditation guru davidji who led us to this doorway of inner peace. Davidji, who hosts HayHouseRadio’s Live from The Chopra Center, offered to bring a mini-version of his Primordial Sound Meditation Workshop to Hay House for all who wanted to participate. (For those of you who don’t know, Primordial Sound Mediation is an ancient form of meditation revived by Dr. Deepak Chopra that uses mantras infused with the sounds of natures to help move your awareness from beyond the activity of the mind to the stillness of the spirit.)

For me, the timing was just right. The lease on my sanity was almost up and stress was ready to send me packing. And when I added meditation to my daily mix, I experienced positive results right away. There are thousands of types of meditation practices and thousands of ways to be mindful. I can’t tell you what will work best for you; you’ll have to do a little research for yourself. But I can tell you that incorporating a meditation practice into your daily routine will change your life. I know…because it changed mine.

Are you ready to discover your own “reset” button? Here are three great ways to get started:

1.  Listen to davidji’s interactive online radio show: “Live from The Chopra Center” on HayHouseRadio. It will rock your world and answer any questions you have about meditation.

2.  Join the next Chopra Center’s 21-Day Meditation Challenge. It’s free and it’s a very cool way to jump into a meditation practice.

3.  Read more books about meditation and try a few meditation CDs.  Hay House has many available. Here are a few of our favorites:
